Assistant Project Manager
Location: North Charleston, SC (regional Southeast focus)
Reports To: Project Manager / Senior Project Manager
About the Role
Robbins Construction Group is seeking a motivated Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support the successful delivery of construction projects across commercial, industrial, multifamily, mixed-use, and hospitality markets. This role is ideal for a developing construction professional who wants hands-on exposure to all aspects of project execution while working alongside experienced Project Managers and Superintendents.
At RCG, Assistant Project Managers are active contributors—not observers. You will be trusted with responsibility, encouraged to ask questions, and supported as you build the skills needed to advance into a Project Manager role.
Job Summary
The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Manager and project team in coordinating design, procurement, construction administration, and closeout activities. This role plays a key part in maintaining project documentation, cost controls, schedules, and communication with subcontractors and consultants. Success in this position means staying organized, proactive, and responsive while learning how complex projects are delivered from start to finish.
What You’ll Do
Project Support & Coordination
· Assist with day-to-day management of assigned construction projects.
· Support coordination between owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
· Track submittals, RFIs, and project documentation to ensure timely responses and approvals.
· Assist with permitting, inspections, and agency coordination as needed.
Cost & Procurement Support
· Assist with subcontractor buyout, contract execution, and procurement tracking.
· Support budget tracking, cost reporting, and change management processes.
· Review subcontractor pay applications and assist with project billing documentation.
Schedule, Quality & Safety
· Support schedule updates, look-ahead planning, and coordination with the field team.
· Assist with quality control documentation, inspections, and punch list tracking.
· Reinforce Robbins Construction Group’s safety culture and support safety documentation and compliance efforts.
Learning & Team Development
· Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to learn project planning, execution, and problem-solving.
· Participate in meetings, site walks, and coordination sessions to gain exposure to all phases of construction.
· Take on increasing responsibility as experience and capability grow.

Experience & Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
· 1–4 years of experience in construction, engineering, or a related role preferred.
· Internship or field experience in commercial construction is a plus.
Technical & Operational Knowledge
· Basic understanding of construction documents and project workflows.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn construction management software.
· Interest in developing skills related to cost management, scheduling, and contract administration.
· Willingness to support projects throughout the Southeast as needed.
